If staying focused all day feels as hard as solving a thousand-piece puzzle blindfolded, you might be wondering if a stimulant like Mydayis could help.

This long-acting ADHD medication was designed to keep you focused all day long, including your evening work or study sessions. It’s meant to help you stay engaged and reduce overwhelm in general — along with the sharp ups and downs shorter-acting stimulants can bring.

Read on to learn how Mydayis works in your brain, what makes it different from other stimulants, and what to expect of side effects and daily coverage.

We’ll also walk you through how ADHD Advisor can help you get diagnosed and access therapy and prescriptions online if you’re in a state where stimulants are available. This article was designed to make your ADHD treatment journey a little less overwhelming and a lot more manageable.

What is Mydayis?

Mydayis is a brand-name stimulant designed to treat ADHD symptoms. It’s made from extended-release mixed amphetamine salts, mostly dextroamphetamine and amphetamine

It’s popular thanks to its ability to last all day long, up to about 16 hours. Meanwhile, other stimulants can last anywhere from 4 to 12 hours. Adderall XR, for example, may last around 8 to 12 hours.

Mydayis was studied in adults 18 to 55 years and teens (13 to 17 years), making it FDA approved for these age groups. Like all stimulants, it’s a Schedule II controlled substance and carries the warning of a high risk of addiction. At ADHD Advisor, we only work with adults 18+, and all stimulants are prescribed at the discretion of a licensed clinician.

How Mydayis Works

Unlike some other stimulants, Mydayis has a specific time-release system. Instead of creating a big jolt by dumping all the medication into your system at once, it has three phases of delivery throughout the day.

The first bout comes in the morning to help you organize the day, another during your afternoon slump, and also in the evening — making it a common choice for students who want to study late.

Like other stimulants, it works with the neurochemicals dopamine and norepinephrine.

  • Dopamine: When there’s enough dopamine and your brain can use it properly, you can feel more motivated and rewarded by your actions.
    • It’s what makes it easier to start and stick with a task, even if it’s not something you really want to do but need to (like a boring work project or taxes).
  • Norepinephrine: With regulated amounts, you can pay attention to what matters and switch tasks as needed — without the usual overwhelm and procrastination.
    • It helps you feel less scattered and makes it easier to focus on the right task at the right time, rather than getting caught up in distractions or “quick wins.”

Mydayis’ goal is to help you navigate your day with more control and less mental chaos. As always, though, therapy is recommended to go alongside medication. Talk therapy is also available as a standalone treatment option with high success rates

Who Can Take Mydayis

Mydayis is FDA-approved for ages 13+, but ADHD Advisor only provides care for adults 18+. While it’s generally considered safe for healthy people, it’s not for everyone.

Who Should Avoid MyDayIs?

People with certain conditions or medications may need to avoid Maydayis. This includes people with:

  • Contraindications: Hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, or MAOI (antidepressant) use.
  • Substance Abuse: Any history of substance abuse is a risk for stimulant misuse.
  • Cardiovascular Problems: Risk of stroke or sudden death in people with heart conditions

Be sure to tell your clinician your full medical history, including your family’s, and any current or recent medication you’ve taken.

Dosages and Administration

Mydayis is meant to be taken once daily, right after waking up in the morning. This is because it lasts 16 hours, and if it’s not out of your system by the time you go to bed, you may have trouble sleeping.

For general guidelines, the FDA recommends these doses

  • Adolescents (13-17): 12.5 mg to start, increasing by 12.5 mg weekly as needed. The maximum daily dose is 25 mg.
  • Adults (18-55): 12.5 mg to start, increasing by 12.5 mg weekly as needed. The maximum daily dose is 50 mg.

As always, follow your clinician's prescription and increase as needed under their observation.

Administration

With Mydayis, you have the option of swallowing the pill whole or sprinkling its contents over a spoonful of applesauce (just be sure to swallow the spoonful immediately, and don’t chew). In general, you can take it with or without food.

Don’t split the capsule, and don’t take the dose late in the day if you forgot it in the morning (it will keep you up at night). Also, never double up and take more than prescribed per day.

Side Effects and Risks

As with every medication, there is the potential for side effects. The most common everyday ones for adults taking Mydayis include:

  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Dry mouth
  • Libido changes
  • Nausea, dizziness
  • Increased heart rate
  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Painful menstrual cramps
  • Decreased appetite and weight

Some of the more serious side effects include:

  • Stroke
  • Seizures
  • Sudden death
  • Teeth grinding
  • Vision changes
  • Swelling of the eyes, face, tongue, or throat
  • Slow or difficult speech, motor, or verbal tics
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing, or hoarseness
  • Unexplained wounds appearing on fingers or toes
  • Pain, numbness, burning, or tingling in the hands or feet
  • Addiction issues: Abuse, misuse, addiction, overdose, sudden death
  • Skin issues: Blistering or peeling skin, rashes, hives, itching, facial swelling
  • Psychiatric issues: mania, paranoia, hallucinations, agitation, depression, anxiety

Always report serious adverse events to your clinician and FDA MedWatch

Boxed Abuse and Dependence Warning

The FDA requires all stimulants to have a boxed warning about the high risk of addiction. Anyone with a history of substance abuse is recommended to avoid stimulants.

Mydayis vs. Other ADHD Medications

Here’s how Mydayis compares to some of the most popular ADHD medications out there:

  • Mydayis vs Adderall XR: Both include amphetamine-based, but Mydayis lasts longer (up to 16 hours compared to 12 hours for Adderall XR). So if you need coverage from morning till later in the evening, Mydayis might be best for you.
  • Mydayis vs Vyvanse: Vyvanse tends to kick in more gradually since your digestive system has to break it down and convert it to dextroamphetamine. It might take an hour or two, but this can work well for people who want a smoother, steadier climb. Mydayis is a stimulant that can come with a bit of a jolt in comparison.
  • Mydayis vs Methylphenidates (Concerta, Ritalin, Jornay PM): Stimulants with methylphenidate (instead of amphetamines, as is in Mydayis) might cause fewer side effects for some people. However, they might not last as long or offer enough focus for people who really struggle. For example, Concerta lasts 12 hours, while Jornay PM starts working overnight, so you wake up alert.
  • Mydayis vs Non-Stimulants: Atomoxetine (Strattera), guanfacine (Intuniv, Tenex), or clonidine (Onyda) adjust brain chemicals more slowly. They don’t have the “instant focus” effect that stimulants can. They might take a few weeks to build up, but they’re also not addictive. They’re usually prescribed for people at risk of substance abuse, as well as those who don’t tolerate stimulant side effects well.

ADHD Care with ADHD Advisor: Stimulant Prescriptions in Select States

We know getting an ADHD diagnosis isn’t always easy. You might be imagining tons of research to find a clinic, long wait times, a commute, and another long wait until treatment begins. At ADHD Advisor, we work to make ADHD testing and treatment as efficient and straightforward as possible. Here’s how we work:

We also offer a superbill you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

The Step-by-Step Process

Getting an ADHD diagnosis or treatment plan can feel overwhelming, so we’ve made the process as simple as possible:

  1. Fill out the online intake questionnaire.
  2. Get your ADHD telehealth evaluation with a licensed clinician.
    • Same-day appointments are often available.
  3. Access your treatment plan (potentially a combination of therapy, non-stimulants, or stimulants if eligible and state-permitted).
    • Online prescriptions for stimulants like Mydayis are only available in select states.
  4. Follow up with your clinician and therapist for ongoing support.

Access, Cost, and Insurance

There are quite a few factors that go into a prescription. For example, your family history, health condition, and specific ADHD symptoms. However, you might want to speak to your insurance company about what type of treatments are covered for ADHD before deciding on your treatment plan.

At ADHD Advisor, we offer a superbill you can submit for potential reimbursement, rather than billing your insurance company directly. You and your clinician can speak about which medications and therapies are best for you, including what would be covered by your insurance.

It’s important to note that currently, Mydayis doesn’t have a generic form for sale. This means it might be more expensive than other types of stimulants, like Adderall XR. You can also check with your local pharmacies to see what’s in stock, along with prices.
